Recount of Rosehill Secondary College

Yesterday I and other people going to Rosehill next year got a bit of a taste of year 7, Because it was our orientation day. We started the day by getting into our home groups. I was in 7A with the two other people from my school which were Lilli.B and Layla.N. After getting into our home groups we went into a classroom to get a booklet about next year. Then we went to the year twelve study room to start our literacy test. We had to answer questions that were on the sheet to tell them what we know and what we need to know. We spent 40 minutes on the test and once we had finished it was time to have recess to interact with other students that are having the same experience.

After recess we meet up at the assembly area so the performance study teacher could take us for our lesson. We first started the lesson with a game, it was called wax museum. It was when everyone was a wax statue and two people were the guards making sure everything was in place. When the guards were not looking the wax statue could tap them on the back and then the guards become the wax statue and the wax statues become the guards. It was really fun. and after that we reacted a scene form the Simpsons. So we got into groups of four and started to practice the scene. After 10 minutes of practicing we then performed it in front of the class.

Then it was time for lunch. We talked and played until it was time to meet at the assembly area again. Then we went back to the year twelve area to do our numeracy test. We spent another 40 minutes on the test and we had to answer 40 questions. After that we went to our Italian class. We touched base on the simple things, example; Ciao, Mi chiamo and many more. We played Bingo with numbers and animals. After that lesson we went to the assembly area because he teachers wanted to give a speech about how they are looking forward for us to come to Rosehill Secondary College.

6 Room Poetry

Today we learnt about  the 6 rooms process.I will show you what they are and how to use them.

Room 1:  Think of something that is amazing, beautiful or interesting. Describe it

Room 2:  Look at the same image but write about the colours, how dose it  look ?

Room 3: What can you hear ?voice?silence?movement?lonely?peaceful?

Room 4:Do you have any questions about your image? What do you want to know more about? What do you wonder about?

Room 5: What are  you feeling

Room 6: Look  over your previous rooms and ideas and chose a word , a line or a phrase that sounds important and repeat it 3 times

Gilbert’s Ghost Train Reflection

5638514Team 3 was when all the 5/6s did Literacy Circles. Literacy Circles is when a group 6-7 people have set jobs there are Discussion Director, Word Watcher, Connector, Passage Master, Captain or Contessa of Comprehension and  Tally Master. They are set a job and have to do there work every week and  on one day of they come together and have a Discussion of what the had read for the week.

The Discussion Director is the leader of the group and gives 5-6 question a per week. The Word Watcher picks 5 new vocabulary from that weeks reading, the Connector makes personal  connector each week. Passage Master find a 2 paragraphs and tells why he/her thought it was interesting, Captain or Contessa of Comprehension think of 4 questions that involve either a Right there question, Think and search question or an on my own. Tally Master keeps track on the homework.

The way we presented our book was a podcast. A podcast is a interview with all the characters and we also did a quiz about the book and to see who knows more the characters, readers or the author and turns out the characters know more. The way we presented our book was a podcast. Maths Mate T3 Q22 S4

Predict: I predict that this question is going to be about adding up numbers to get to a certain value.

Read: Four consecutive numbers add up to 94. What are the four numbers?

Clarifications: None

Toolbox:Guess, check and improve

BIG question: What are the four consecutive numbers?

Solution: Use trial and error to eventually find out the numbers are 22, 23, 24 and 25.

Math Matee S3 T3

Predict: I predict that this question will be about addition.

Read: The sum of three consecutive whole numbers is 96. What are the three numbers?

Clarify: I had nothing to clarify in this question.

Mathematician’s Toolbox: The strategy I used from the mathematician’s toolbox was to test all possibilities.

Big question: The big question is what are the three numbers.

Solve: Firstly, I knew that 30 x 3 was 90, so then I knew that all I had to do was find three consecutive numbers added together to equal six and add one to each 30. 1, 2 and 3 equalled 6, so I added them to 30. The answer I got was 31, 32 and 33.

Summary: This problem was easy to solve if you knew addition.a

The lost land

Have you ever felt lost and no one would try to find you? I was sitting on the bus praying for us to win. When we got there we got of the bus and ran to the court ready for a exciting game. We made a game plan to play strong and to WIN . We stuck to it and got the first goal at this point I was feeling abit dizzy then something happened.

I fell styraight to the ground but only a referee and some girl came to help me. I was unsure what the girls name was but she asked if I was ok. As the referee took me to the chair i didn’t respond because I was in pain. They continued playing the game as I sat on the chair, I looked over at the floor and something was wrong. I limped over with my ankle hurting and I fell right next to the hole, I tried to get a look but I fell right through. I felt like Alice In Wonderland.

I fell on a rose petal and noticed that either things had grown really big or I had shrunk. I walked over to a small house in the middle of nowhere. I knocked on the door but no-one responded so I creeped through the gap.”Hello, hello” I said. I heard someone talking so i tried to follow their voice. Then  an old rabbet come out of the blue.”Do you know I might be”I said. He looked at me weirdly and pushed me out saying “Go, go, go, straight out” I walked over to a tree and then glanced at the ground, I saw a path going to a deep forest. I walked very slowly down the path, because I saw some smoke , I wafted it away from my face and saw a very little caterpillar with some burnt toast. I said politely ” Do you know where I am?” He looked at me weirdly and said “Beg my pardon, I thought you were the garden” I then replied “Sorry, am I disturbing you?” he pointed to a sign and said “You are in the Lost Land of Dreams” I read the sign and it said ‘Exit from Lost Land of Dreams’.

I walked through the dark tunnel and saw the girl who was helping me before. She  asked me again “How are you?” and I said “I’ve never been better” Has this ever happened to you?

Maths Mate Q22 T3

Predict: I predict that this question will be about addition.Read: The sum of two consecutive whole numbers is 97. What are the two numbers?

Clarify: No

Mathematician’s Toolbox: The strategy I used from the mathematician’s toolbox was to work backwards.

Big question: The big question is what two consecutive numbers equal 97?

Solve: Firstly, I divided 90 by 2, which was 45. Then I knew that 4 and 3 was 7, and they were consecutive, so I added them onto 45 and 45 so that the two numbers were now 48 and 49, and when added together they were 97. So the answer is 48 and 49.

Summary: This problem was quite easy to solve if you knew what the word consecutive meant.

What is rust (experiment)

  1. Why don’t some metals rust ?

– because they have different materials over them like aluminium dioxide

2. Why does it take some things longer then others to rust ?

– because they are made of different materials which can effect the process of rusting

  1. Why do materials rust?

-because they have iron on it making  the oxygen stick to the material and also when water has come in contact with it , it also makes   the material rust.

4. What does rust look like ?

– orange ,raged , brittle , It also is very weak and can be broken  easily and very  flaky

5. How can rust be prevented?

– by keeping it away from water and using paint, also by using a oil called WD40

6. can rust be harmful to your health?

–  It depends if you get cut then yes because the bacteria gets in to your blood stream get to your hart and make you really sick ( sometimes death )

7.Is there a good use to rust?

– yes there is a good use some designers like to put it into their artwork and it can turn out to be something very nice

8. Does iron in your blood rust?

– no it doesn’t rust because it is not the right sort of iron and it isn’t in contact with any liquids except your blood and that is what makes it so it can’t rust
